Background

Bitcoin Magazine was founded in May 2012 by Vitalik Buterin (later the co-founder of Ethereum) and Mihai Alisie, along with several other contributors, making it the first serious print periodical dedicated to cryptocurrency. Buterin served as head writer while still a university student, and the publication was initially operated through Coin Publishing LLC. In late 2014, BTC Media LLC — the media subsidiary of BTC Inc. — acquired the magazine and expanded it into a full digital and events operation, including the annual Bitcoin Conference series. David Bailey, a veteran Bitcoin investor and general partner at UTXO Management, became CEO of BTC Inc. and oversaw the magazine's growth into one of the most widely read crypto publications. Bailey played a prominent role in the 2024 U.S. presidential race, advising Donald Trump on crypto policy and helping secure Trump's appearance as a keynote speaker at the 2024 Bitcoin Conference. In early 2026, Bailey's newly formed Nakamoto Inc. (NASDAQ: NAKA) completed an all-stock acquisition of BTC Inc. and UTXO Management in a deal valued at roughly $107 million, making Bitcoin Magazine a subsidiary of a publicly traded Bitcoin treasury company. Nakamoto's stock subsequently fell roughly 99% from its peak amid a broader rout in digital-asset treasury companies. Throughout its history, Bitcoin Magazine has maintained an explicitly pro-Bitcoin editorial perspective — sometimes called 'Bitcoin maximalist' — covering developments favorable to Bitcoin adoption while showing little interest in other cryptocurrencies or critical perspectives on the asset class.
