Background

The Conservative Treehouse, operating under the domain theconservativetreehouse.com and the banner 'The Last Refuge,' was founded around 2009–2011 as a group blog self-described as a 'rag tag bunch of conservative misfits.' The site's pseudonymous lead author, 'Sundance'—widely identified as Mark Bradman, a former Publix supermarket manager from Cape Coral, Florida—rose to prominence during the 2012–2013 George Zimmerman trial, where the site published aggressive commentary about Trayvon Martin and doxed an anonymous witness. Beginning in 2015, the site became one of the earliest and most enthusiastic online hubs for Donald Trump's presidential campaign, building a large following for its lengthy, conspiratorial analyses of the 'deep state,' the Russia investigation, and alleged corruption in the FBI and Justice Department. In November 2020, WordPress.com notified the site that it would need to find new hosting, which Sundance and allies characterized as political deplatforming; the blog migrated to self-hosted infrastructure and has continued operating independently since. Media Bias/Fact Check rates it 'Extreme Right' with 'Low' factual reporting, citing promotion of conspiracy theories and numerous failed fact checks. Even some conservative commentators have distanced themselves from it: radio host Mark Levin called it a 'kook site.' Since Trump's second term began in January 2025, the site has maintained broadly supportive coverage, though it has occasionally criticized the administration for not acting aggressively enough against mainstream media institutions.
