Cryptobriefing
U.S. crypto-industry
Background
Crypto Briefing was founded in 2017 by Han Kao with a stated mission to provide unbiased, research-driven cryptocurrency analysis at a time when much crypto media was openly promotional. In 2018 it raised a $2 million seed round from a group of Asia-based and crypto-focused venture firms, giving it early runway as an independent outlet. The outlet initially claimed to reject all advertising revenue to preserve editorial independence, but it later shifted to an ad-supported model while maintaining a stated policy separating news from commercial relationships. It developed SIMETRI, a premium research and trade-analysis subscription service, as an additional revenue stream. In March 2021, founder Han Kao stepped down as CEO and was succeeded by then-editor-in-chief Mitchell Moos; subsequent leadership changes are not fully documented in public sources. Crypto Briefing covers DeFi, layer-1 and layer-2 protocols, market news, and crypto regulation, consistently from a perspective favorable to the growth of the crypto industry broadly. It has no known record of major editorial scandals, but like most crypto outlets it depends financially on advertising from companies within the industry it covers, a structural tension it discloses but does not fully resolve.
