Background

Eos traces its origins to Transactions, American Geophysical Union, which began in 1920 as a newsletter sharing meeting proceedings and research summaries with AGU members. The name 'Eos'—after the Greek goddess of dawn—was added in 1969 to reflect the publication's role in illuminating new Earth and space science findings. It became a weekly tabloid newspaper in 1979, and AGU launched Eos.org in 2014, shifting to daily online publication alongside a monthly print edition.
