Background

The outlet launched in 2017 under the name Liberty Headlines as part of a wave of right-leaning digital news startups that positioned themselves against what they called a radicalized mainstream press. Around July 2020 it rebranded as Headline USA, retaining the same conservative editorial direction. Ben Sellers, a former newspaper journalist and high school journalism adviser, joined in 2018 and became editor-in-chief in October 2021; he later retired and was succeeded by reporter Ken Silva.
