The Insurer
B2B trade, non-political (global insurance industry)
Background
The Insurer traces its roots to Reinsurance Magazine, a print trade journal first published in 1969. In 2018, the publication was rebranded as The Insurer and relaunched as a digital-first news platform by World Business Media Limited (WBML), a London-based specialist media company. The 2018 rebrand accompanied a shift in scope from reinsurance alone to the broader global property-casualty and specialty (re)insurance market. WBML also published related titles including E&S Insurer, Program Manager, and ESG Insurer, and operated an Insurer TV video channel and a conferences business. In January 2024, Thomson Reuters acquired WBML, integrating The Insurer into its Reuters News division as part of a strategy to expand professional-vertical news products. At the time of acquisition, the publication reached roughly 45,000 industry professionals and maintained editorial hubs in London, New York, and Atlanta. As a B2B trade outlet targeting underwriters, brokers, and risk capital professionals, The Insurer has never carried an overt political orientation; its editorial track record reflects specialized industry journalism rather than advocacy.
