Kiplinger
U.S. center, business/personal-finance focused
Background
Kiplinger was founded in Washington, D.C., in 1920 by journalist W.M. Kiplinger, who pioneered the newsletter format for economic and business forecasting. For more than nine decades the company, known formally as Kiplinger Washington Editors, Inc., remained a closely held family operation managed by three generations of the Kiplinger family. Its flagship publication, Kiplinger's Personal Finance (launched 1947), became one of the oldest and most widely read personal finance magazines in the United States. In February 2019, the Kiplinger family sold the company to U.K.-based Dennis Publishing, ending nearly a century of family ownership. In August 2021, Future plc — a large London-listed specialist media company — acquired Dennis Publishing for roughly £300 million, bringing Kiplinger into a portfolio that also includes The Week and MoneyWeek. Under Future's ownership, Kiplinger expanded its digital presence and integrated into Future's ad-tech infrastructure. Media Bias/Fact Check categorizes Kiplinger as 'Least Biased' with a high factual reporting record, reflecting its practical, consumer-oriented approach rather than a partisan editorial line.
