Background

The station signed on February 1, 1974, as KITC, named for its original owner, Idaho Television Company. It became KIVI in 1975. In 1977 it was sold, along with sister station KPVI in Pocatello, to Futura Titanium Corporation. It later passed to Journal Communications. In 2008 Journal agreed to buy KNIN, which would have created Boise's first TV duopoly. In 2014 E. W. Scripps agreed to acquire Journal Communications. KIVI and several radio stations were placed in a divestiture trust at first, but Scripps kept KIVI and the radio stations and did not keep KNIN. KIVI airs ABC programming along with local news branded as Idaho News 6, and it shares some content with Scripps's national news operations. Media Bias/Fact Check, a rating site, treats KIVI as a mainstream local outlet with largely factual reporting, though such ratings are subjective. I did not find a verified, recent analysis of its Trump-administration coverage, so the 'mostly neutral' tag rests on the usual straight-news approach of a commercial local TV station.
