Law & Crime
U.S. left-center
Background
Law & Crime launched in 2016 as LawNewz, a legal-news website and live-trial streaming service founded by Dan Abrams, the longtime ABC News chief legal analyst. In November 2017 it was rebranded Law & Crime Network, and A+E Networks took an equity stake, providing infrastructure for cable and satellite distribution. The outlet grew rapidly on YouTube, becoming the leading platform for live courtroom coverage with more than 3 billion views and 5 million subscribers. In October 2023 Abrams sold the property to Jellysmack, a creator-economy startup valued at roughly $1 billion, in a deal reported at nine figures (approximately $125 million); Abrams stayed on as CEO. Law & Crime also expanded into TV production, supplying true-crime content to Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and Fox. Media Bias/Fact Check rates it left-center with a high factual-reporting score, noting that its news coverage is minimally biased but its editorial positioning favors the political left and has frequently been critical of Trump-era policies and figures. AllSides rates it tentatively center but with low confidence, reflecting the outlet's focus on legal process over partisan commentary.
