William A. Jacobson, a Harvard Law graduate and civil litigator turned Cornell law professor, launched Legal Insurrection on October 12, 2008, initially as a personal blog hosted on Google Blogger. The site grew rapidly in conservative media circles, reaching its first million visits within about a year and ranking among the top conservative and legal blogs by 2011. Jacobson incorporated the Legal Insurrection Foundation as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2019 to house the blog and expand its activism.
