The Logic
Canadian business-centrist
Background
The Logic was founded in June 2018 by David Skok, a veteran Canadian journalist who previously held senior digital roles at the Toronto Star, The Boston Globe, and Global News. It launched as a subscription-only outlet modeled in part on The Information, targeting readers interested in Canadian technology, startups, and innovation policy. In 2019 Postmedia took a minority stake and began syndicating stories through the Financial Post, giving The Logic wider reach while preserving its editorial independence. The outlet raised a C$4 million round in 2024 led by FT Ventures, marking the Financial Times Group's first Canadian media investment. The Logic operates bureaus in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, and Montreal. Its stated mandate is non-partisan business and technology journalism, though its investor base — notably Postmedia, which leans center-right editorially — and its FT connection place it broadly in the mainstream business press tradition. Since 2025 its coverage has been heavily shaped by the Canada–U.S. trade conflict, with consistent reporting on the economic costs of Trump-era tariffs and procurement restrictions for Canadian firms.
