OSV News
U.S. Catholic, right-center
Background
Our Sunday Visitor was founded in 1912 by Father John Francis Noll, a small-town Indiana priest who wanted to counter anti-Catholic literature circulating in the early twentieth century; the first print run was 35,000 copies and circulation quickly reached 160,000. Over the following century OSV grew into the largest Catholic publisher in the United States, supplying parish resources, fundraising software, and books to the vast majority of U.S. Catholic parishes and every diocese. OSV News itself launched on January 1, 2023, after the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops announced it would shut down Catholic News Service (CNS), the longstanding U.S. Catholic wire service, at the end of 2022; OSV acquired CNS's domestic operations and built the new outlet on that foundation. OSV News functions as a national and international wire service, syndicating content to diocesan newspapers and Catholic media outlets across the country. In 2025, OSV announced it was ending its flagship print magazine and most periodical publications, leaving OSV News as its primary editorial product. Media Bias/Fact Check rates OSV News as right-center in bias, reflecting its alignment with Catholic Church doctrine on social issues, and gives it a mixed rating on factual reporting, citing its strong ideological framing and limited inline sourcing. The outlet does not carry advertising in the traditional sense and operates as part of a broader nonprofit Catholic media enterprise.
