Outlook was founded in October 1995 by the Rajan Raheja Group and launched under founding editor-in-chief Vinod Mehta, who built it into a major rival to the dominant India Today within a few years. Mehta gave the magazine a reputation for aggressive investigative journalism, most notably publishing exposés on the 2010 Radia tapes scandal, which revealed lobbying ties between corporate power brokers, politicians, and journalists.
