Payments Dive
U.S. business trade press (center, industry-focused)
Background
Payments Dive is one of the niche trade publications run by Industry Dive, which was founded in 2012 by Sean Griffey, Eli Dickinson and Ryan Willumson. Industry Dive was majority-owned by private equity firm Falfurrias Capital Partners before Informa announced its purchase in July 2022 and completed it that September, in a deal reported at about $525 million (some outlets cite a lower figure). Payments Dive was added to the Dive network as a vertical covering card networks, banks, fintechs, regulation and payment technology. It is edited by a small team that has included Lynne Marek as lead editor and Saied Sartipzadeh as managing editor. Industry Dive publications describe their model as journalism-style coverage written for business decision-makers, and they are supported by advertisers and sponsors rather than reader payments. Its coverage of the second Trump administration has focused on practical regulatory effects, such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's shifting rules and budget fight, open banking and earned wage access policy. Pieces have reported expectations that the administration would be friendlier to fintechs and lighter on regulation, usually framed as industry analysis rather than praise or criticism. I could not find a record of major editorial controversies. As with other trade outlets, its commercial ties to the industry it covers are a point readers may want to keep in mind.
