Background

The Quint launched on Facebook in January 2015 and opened its full website in March 2015, founded by Raghav Bahl and Ritu Kapur after they departed from Network18, one of India's largest broadcast groups. The outlet was built around mobile and social media distribution, targeting younger urban Indian audiences with short-form video and digital storytelling at a time when legacy print and TV dominated Indian news. It is published under Quintillion Digital Limited, which also owns fact-checking wing WebQoof, certified by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). A common source of public confusion is the Adani connection: Gautam Adani's AMG Media Networks acquired Quintillion Business Media Limited, publisher of the financial platform BQ Prime (formerly Bloomberg Quint), in 2023 — but that entity is separate from The Quint and Quintillion Digital Limited, which remained under Bahl and Kapur's control. Media Bias/Fact Check rates The Quint as left-center in bias with a high standard for factual accuracy. Its editorial record includes critical coverage of Prime Minister Modi's government, promotion of women's rights issues, and skepticism toward Hindu nationalist narratives, alongside documented controversies over fact-checks disputed by Indian government ministries. In recent years the outlet has pivoted away from breaking news toward enterprise journalism and ground reporting to shore up its membership-based revenue model, and in 2025 it joined the WAN-IFRA Newsroom AI Catalyst programme, developing an AI tool called NewsEasy to help readers navigate longer stories.
