Background

SEGRO traces its origins to 1920, when it was founded as The Slough Trading Company Ltd to acquire and develop what became the Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire, England. It was renamed Slough Estates Ltd in 1926 and expanded through the mid-twentieth century into a diversified UK industrial landlord. In the 1980s it grew rapidly through acquisitions including Allnatt Properties (1984) and Bredero Properties (1986). When the UK introduced Real Estate Investment Trust legislation in January 2007, Slough Estates converted to REIT status and rebranded as SEGRO — an acronym derived from 'Slough Estates Group'. It is dual-listed on the London Stock Exchange (FTSE 100) and Euronext Paris, and today owns or manages roughly 10.9 million square metres of modern warehousing and industrial space across the UK and Continental Europe.
