The Trace

The Trace is a nonprofit newsroom focused exclusively on gun violence in the United States, launched in 2015 with startup money from Everytown for Gun Safety, the Bloomberg-backed gun control organization. It is rated Left-Center by Media Bias/Fact Check, reflecting its gun-control-adjacent funding origins and editorial orientation. Since Trump's second term began in January 2025, its coverage has been broadly critical, documenting administration cuts to gun violence research funding, rollbacks at the ATF and CDC, and deregulatory moves on firearms.
