WFAE is Charlotte's flagship NPR member station, owned by the nonprofit University Radio Foundation, Inc. and funded mainly by listener contributions and local corporate underwriting. Its coverage follows the center-left editorial orientation common across the NPR network, with story selection and framing that lean slightly liberal. Since January 2025, its reporting on the Trump administration's second term has been broadly critical, consistent with NPR's network-wide approach.
