Zacks
U.S. market-focused, financially oriented, no clear political lean
Background
Len Zacks, holding a PhD from MIT, founded Zacks Investment Research in Chicago in 1978 after identifying that earnings estimate revisions are a powerful predictor of stock price movements. That insight became the foundation of the Zacks Rank, a quantitative stock-rating system still central to the firm's product line. In 1992, the company launched Zacks Investment Management as a wholly owned subsidiary focused on portfolio management. The firm has remained privately held and family-run, with roughly 400 employees and a team of more than 70 equity analysts. Zacks distributes its research broadly through data licensing deals with brokerages (including Fidelity), financial databases, and content partnerships with platforms such as Yahoo Finance and Nasdaq. Yahoo Finance, through which Zacks content widely reaches retail investors, is owned by Yahoo Inc., which Apollo Global Management acquired for approximately $5 billion in September 2021. Zacks' editorial approach is data-driven and investor-focused; it does not carry opinion columns or political commentary, and coverage of government policy is framed around portfolio impact rather than political stance. No major editorial controversies are on record.
