The Environmental Defense Fund is an independent American nonprofit founded in 1967 and led since 1984 by president and CEO Fred Krupp. It advocates for environmental and climate policy through litigation, lobbying, and market-based partnerships with businesses, placing it toward the center-left of the environmental movement. Since January 2025 it has been broadly critical of the Trump administration, filing multiple lawsuits challenging rollbacks of climate and clean-air rules.
