Spectrum News is a group of about 17 local and regional cable news channels owned by Charter Communications, a large cable and internet provider. It focuses on local news, weather and sports with a conventional, straight-news approach and little visible partisan slant. Its coverage of the Trump administration is mostly neutral and event-driven, with an emphasis on local effects of federal policy.
Owned byCharter Communications (the Spectrum cable and internet company), which acquired the channels through its 2016 purchase of Time Warner Cable. Charter closed its $34.5 billion acquisition of Cox Communications on August 20, 2026. In 2026 it also agreed to buy NBCUniversal's New England Cable News (NECN) and merge it with its Spectrum News newsrooms in the region.
