Associated Press

U.S. center to center-left

The Associated Press is a not-for-profit news cooperative owned by U.S. newspaper and broadcast member organizations, with no single private or government owner. Independent media analysts generally rate its output as center to slightly center-left, despite its self-presentation as a neutral wire service. Since the start of the second Trump term in January 2025, it has been in active conflict with the White House, which banned its reporters from presidential events over the AP's refusal to adopt the administration's preferred name 'Gulf of America' in place of 'Gulf of Mexico.'
